Abstract Zinc is one of the essential elements of body which has an important role in natural growth, development, and many biological performances. Zinc deficiency is a major health problem and pregnant women are at high risk. 82% of pregnant women worldwide suffer from zinc deficiency. Zinc deficiency during pregnancy has dangerous and irreparable effects such as growth impairment, spontan...
متن کاملPnm-18: Role of Micronutrients in the PericonceptionalPeriod
Background: Micronutrient deficiencies have been associated with significantly high reproductive risks, ranging from infertility to fetal structural defects and long-term diseases. Materials and Methods: In this review we focus on the reproductive risks related to some micronutrients during the periconceptional period, a critical step in determining fetal development and health due to the poten...
متن کاملMicronutrients in pregnancy.
Vitamins and minerals, referred to collectively as micronutrients, have important influences on the health of pregnant women and the growing fetus. Iron deficiency results in anemia which may increase the risk of death from hemorrhage during delivery, but its effects on fetal development and birth outcomes is still unclear. Folic acid deficiency can lead to hematological consequences, pregnancy...
متن کاملSex-Specific Muscular Maturation Responses Following Prenatal Exposure to Methylation-Related Micronutrients in Pigs
Supplementation of micronutrients involved in DNA methylation, particularly during pregnancy, is recommended because of its impacts on human health, but further evidence is needed regarding the effects of over-supplementation and differences between sexes. Here, a porcine model was used to assess effects of maternal supplementation with one-carbon-cycle compounds during prenatal and postnatal s...
متن کاملImpact of zinc supplementation during pregnancy on the anthropometric indices of the newborns
Background: Nutritional status of pregnant mothers is one of the key factors in fetal growth. Micronutrients including Zinc lead to various biological consequences on mother and fetus. We therefore investigated the effect of supplemental zinc sulfate during pregnancy on the newborns weight, height and head circumference. Methods: Using a double-blinded controlled clinical trial, 465 pregnant ...
